Critical Reflection

 Module Learning

Referring the goals that I have set up for myself at the start of the course which is present myself confidently in front of a large group of audiences. By reflecting on what I have learned about critical thinking, I am able to improve my verbal skills such as communicating with my project group mates and expressing myself confidently during presentations.

Before I enrolled in this module, I often failed to present myself confidently and afraid that my statements are irrelevant to my topic. This is because I rarely conduct any presentation in front of a large audience before and I have low self-esteem. This would cause me to panic and forgot what I am going to say during a presentation. In order to improve my communication and boost my confidence, I often take part in in-class participation such as answering questions from Professor Fazilah. Besides, I looked up for several external sources such as watching TED Talks from YouTube to improve and refine my presentation skills.

Even though my presentation skills improved, but there is room for improvement. Reflecting from my recent project presentation, I had long pauses because I forgot the speaker notes that I memorized. I should not have memorized the whole paragraphs of my speech. In fact, I should have memorized the keywords from the slides and elaborate it during the presentation in order to look more natural. With this solution, I have the confident that I am going to perform better during presentations in the future.

 

Project Learning

The Effective Communication module was a great learning experience and I have learned all sorts of research and writing skills through this module. One of our projects is to come up with a technical report that proposed about the ideas that are going to be added on a beach cleaning robot. We came up with several brilliant ideas by researching intensively through secondary research. What I have learnt from my group mates is that through brainstorming sessions and put what we have learnt during our tertiary education, it would provide various ideas for our project.

While writing the technical report, I have learned how to utilize the technical terms efficiently such as “authentication” and “operating system”. With all the technical terms being used in our report accurately, our report would definitely look more professional. Besides, our report would be able to communicate the work to others and possibly providing useful information.

I have learned that the structure of the report plays the most important part in a technical report. There are several sections in our report structure are important for readers such as the benefits and implications of our ideas and the methods that we used to research on our ideas. I have learned that structure is important in technical writing because it helps to make our ideas clearer and strengthen our arguments. Moreover, it could guide the reader’s comprehension so that the reader will not feel lost when reading our technical report.

The experience of writing a technical report was indeed fruitful and beneficial for my future. It changed my view of learning by researching through the authentic and trustable channels. I have learned the correct way of conducting secondary research during the process of this project. In terms project experience, I am surely benefited from this project because I utilized all the knowledge that I have learned throughout this module. I am feeling grateful because I have learned something that is extremely useful in my field of study.
